General Pony Questions
These are terms thought up by My Little Pony collectors to identify each version of pony, when Hasbro ends production of one style of pony and then a few years later redesigns them for a new audience. The G stands for 'generation'. G1 : 1982-1995 G2 : 1997-2002 G3 : (2003-???) |
... I have no idea.
Lol, sorry, there just isn't an easy answer to that. There are 3 generations of ponies and all of these had different ponies made overseas, some I'm sure I don't know about yet. There are ALOT of ponies out there. |
The year marked on the bottom of a pony's foot isn't the year the pony was made in, it is the year that particular mold/pose was made. So all ponies who look like Fizzy, who are in that pose, should have 85 stamped on the bottom of their hooves because the mold for that pose was made in 1985.
This is another question I just can't answer. The prices of ponies go up and down as people bid on them on ebay. Ebay is the site most people base their pony prices on. This is an unreliable way as really rare ponies can go for a song if no one sees them and really common ponies can go for expensive prices depending on whether or not there is a bidding war going on. |

MIB - an abbreviation that stands for 'Mint In Box'. It means that the item has never been opened. MIP - an abbreviation that stands for 'Mint In Package'. It states that the item has never been removed from its packing material. MLP - an abbreviation that means 'My Little Pony'. MOC - an abbreviation that means 'Mint On Card'. It means that the item has never been removed from its factory sealed hangcard. |
Pony Feathers - an expression coined by Firefly in
Firefly's Adventure that means 'Poppycock' or 'That's Ridiculous'.
Example - Megan: None of the ponies will like me... Firefly: Ponyfeathers! |
Snipe is a term that means getting outbid at the last
minute on E-bay. It is considered rude by some and necessary to win
ponies by others.
TRU is an abbreviation that stands for Toys R' Us
and is used in chatrooms and message boards a lot.
In the My Little Pony TV series and in the movies from the 80's, unicorn ponies had the unique ability to disappear from one spot and reappear in another. Wink In - when a unicorn wants to be at a place they can simply 'wish' to be there and they will magical be transported to that location. This sudden appearance in the new location is called 'winking in'. Wink Out - like 'Wink In' only it refers to the sudden disappearance of the unicorn. |

G1 Questions
Some times a pony's hair can fade over time to white.
Usually this is from sunlight damage. Ponies most susceptible to this
effect are G1 ponies: Rosedust, Posey, Lickety Split, Baby Cotton Candy,
... more

The Watercolor Baby Sea ponies could change color
in hot and cold water. But, over time their color change can stop working.
So your Watercolor Baby Sea Pony could be the hot water version, the
cold water version, or some odd combination of the two.
Mimic has a very unique coloration, very bright green, that many people find attractive. She was also featured in an episode of the My Little Pony TV series which endears her with those of use who used to watch the show. Those are my theories on why she is so sought after.

BBE is an abbreviation for Beddy-Bye Eye Baby ponies. These ponies that had eyes that would open and close depending on whether they were laying down or not, which gave the babies the appearance of being able to go to sleep. Beddy-Bye Eye refers to the eyes of some of the original 80's baby ponies that could open and close.
Twinkle-Eye sometimes shortened to TE, refers to the
jewels placed in some of the eyes of the original 80's pony line.
So-Soft also shortened to SS, refers to the 'fuzzy' fur that covers the bodies of some of the original 80's ponies.
TAF is an abbreviation that stands for 'Twice as Fancy'. It was a style of pony where the pony's symbol covered their whole body.

G2 Questions
This is a very common problem in G2 ponies. Many times
the tiny crystal in their eyes will fall out. It is not a factory error,
but a result from play or bad glue.

G3 Questions
A cutie mark is the symbol a pony wears on her hip. It was coined by Hasbro in 2003 for the newest pony line. A Cutie Mark! |
Many of the pony playsets had special magnetic areas
that when a pony, with a magnet in their hoof, 'walked' over that spot
it would cause something to happen. For instance music plays in the
Celebration Castle Playset when a pony steps on the pink heart on the
ballroom floor.
No one is 100% sure, however there was a scare in
2006-07 with Polly Pocket toys. Kids were getting the magnets out of
these toys and there were fears that these magnets would be eaten and/or
choke some little kid. Soon after this, magnets started disappearing
from the G3 ponies. So, the My Little Pony magnets may have been removed
to prevent kids from eating pony magnets or it just might be a Hasbro
style change.
See above question. That is where the magnets used
to be!

In 2007/2008 Hasbro decided to limit the pony line to 7 core ponies, meaning they would only produce toys and mercandise featureing 7 little ponies instead of dozens of different and unique ponies. From one of Hasbro's press releases these Core 7 ponies are: Pinkie Pie (the leader) Press release info: "My Little Pony is that, for 2008, the collection of characters, which currently numbers near 300, will be brought down to a core seven ponies, according to company rep Shelly Eckenroth. Its really about the characters and the depth of those characters, she said, noting that the strategy for the brand will see it move into products that are designed to develop the core characters in more detail" |
See above question. When Hasbro decided to do this 'Core 7 ponies' thing they renamed Cherry Blossom to Cheerilee. No one is sure why they decide to recycle another name.
Cheerilee was originally a unicorn and was even featured in the cartoon, 'The Runaway Rainbow'. Her name was then recycled by Hasbro and given to the renamed 'Cherry Blossom'.

Toola Roola was redesigned when Hasbro decided to go with their 'core 7' idea. Older Toola Roola _______ vs. _______ Redesigned Toola Roola

Fakie/False Pony ID Questions
Actually this isn't a My Little Pony Mommy Charm it is from a line of toys produced by Hasbro in the 80's called Charmkins. Her name is 'My Pixie Pony' and she comes with a clip and a necklace. This pony was made before Hasbro decided to produce the My Little
Pony Mommy Charms and her mold was used to make the My Little Pony
charms. That is why they look so much alike, they are both from the
same mold!
They aren't My Little Pony items. These toys are from another one of Hasbro's toylines called Moondreamers. The bear is called 'Ursa', the lion is 'Roary', and the dragon is called 'Galaxia'.
Hasbro has sold the molds for the G1 My Little Pony line and possibly for the G2 line as well. Many companies have been producing My Little Pony like toys, but they are much poorer quality. It might be in the same mold, but it is not a My Little Pony unless it is made by Hasbro. These ponies are called 'fakies' because they aren't real My Little Pony toys. Fakies:

Cleaning Questions
These spots are usually found on older ponies and are not really removable. At least I have never found a good way to remove them. I would just leave them alone or paint over them if they really bother you. |
I have had luck with Remove Zit, a product you can only buy online. I tried it on the brown spots on one of my ponies and it did almost completely remove the spots. Only the darkest center was still visible. However... it also removed the color from the ponies body, so instead of brown spots she now has white spots. This product also leaves a sticky residue on the plastic that I have not been able to fully remove even with the cleaner that is supposed to remove it. So it does work, but it has some side effects. |
Smooze - 1) a grimy, sticky
substance that covers everything in its path and is impossible to remove
without a Flutterpony. It was first seen in My Little Pony - The
Movie when the witches of the Volcano of Gloom were trying to make
Ponyland Dark, Dank, and Dreary.
2) a kind of fungal growth, also called 'Pony Cancer' (see below question) |
This is what is called 'smooze' by collectors. It is generally thought that this is a kind of fungal growth, also called 'Pony Cancer' that can ruin an entire pony collection if left untreated. Though I have had smooze ponies near unsmoozed ponies and I haven't seen the fungus spread. Fungus/mold needs moist damp air to spread so keep your ponies in a nice dry place (humidity below 70%) and this shouldn't be a big problem. You can read up on the condition here. I remove smooze by first giving the ponies a good soak in a Clorox and water solution. I leave them in there to soak for a few hours, making sure to turn them halfway through, to make sure both sides get treated. Then I wash the ponies with baby shampoo and just scratch at the smooze spots until they vanish. This works on most minor smooze spots. |
I haven't really tried this method, but I have heard
that if you clean a pony with either acetone or goo-gone they will take
the pens marks out. But I suggest trying it on the bottom of a hoof
first, just in case it doesn't work. And keep the cleaner away from
eyes, symbols, and so soft ponies.
Over time and perhaps due to sunlight damage a pony's
head and body can fade to different colors. There is no way to fix that.
There is no quick fix for this however if you place
something between their legs, over time they will bend back to the right
position.
Yes, treat the eye with rust remover. I have never
actually tried this, so I recommend being careful.
Well, it could be highlighter marks or it could be
regrind. The extra plastic left over from manufacturing was ground up
again and reused in different batches of toys. These competing plastics
age differently and hold their color dye differently. I know of no way
to fix that, but it doesn't spread to other ponies.
