2003
"Celebration" is the theme for the MY LITTLE PONY brand this year.

2004
Theme of this year is "Friendship Ball".
It is a very special event that happens once a year in PONYVILLE, where one pony is named “Best Friend of the Year.” The ponies are all busy preparing for the big event, with sparkles and jewels, eveningwear and dance lessons!

2005
This year's theme was "Butterfly Island".
Today is an extra-special day! The sun is brighter, the sky is bluer and it feels like magic is in the air! The ponies have found lots of exciting new places in Ponyville, and they are about to discover the most magical place of all --- Butterfly Island. Come join them on their exciting adventure!

2006

This year's theme is "Crystal Princess".
The ponies all love pretending to be a princess. But they’re in for a surprise when they discover that, for one special pony, this fairy tale might really come true!

2007

There was no clear theme that I noticed in 2007. The new ponies that were released to stores were still labeled with the 'Crystal Princess' theme. It wasn't until late 2007, around July and August, when the next line of ponies began appearing in stores that the theme changed. These ponies sported the new theme "My Little Pony 25th Birthday Celebration" in honor of the My Little Pony brand's 25th Anniversary. This theme would continue into 2008.

2008

This year Hasbro decided to limit the pony line to a 'core 7' number of ponies. From one of their press releases these ponies are:

Pinkie Pie (the leader)
Rainbow Dash (the glamour girl)
Scootaloo (the adventurer)
Cheerilee - former Cherry Blossom (the storyteller)
Toola-Roola - new pink pony (the artist)
Sweetie-Belle - a white unicorn (the silliest)
Star Song - a purple pegasus (the performer)

In addition to the whole limiting the ponies to 7, the backcard stories were reused for each pony release. So the stories for the Favorite Friends, Make Up, and Name ponies (maybe others as well) are all pretty much the same. They have the same story, use the same image (though this image maybe centered differently on some packages), and really only have minor and slight clerical differences to say whether or not the pony came with an accessory and to promote 'Give Kids the World Village'.

The theme is also murky this year... it might be "My Little Pony 25th Birthday Celebration", "Core 7", or they might have scrapped the year's theme idea altogether.

2009

Theme - None: the theme idea seems to have been totally abandoned.
This year the ponies would be redesigned with bigger heads and huge eyes. Also, Newborn Cuties would be released for the first time!
