2008 My Little Pony Fair - Providence, Rhode Island

Hasbro Tour - Friday

I wasn't on the tour so all images and information have been donated by Fizzypop.

The Hasbro Tour took place on Friday - June 20. The tour attendees were driven by bus to the Hasbro facilities where Pinkie Pie waited to greet them. Once inside the building the large group was divided into smaller groups and escorted on the tour by Hasbro representatives.

The hallways of the Hasbro offices were decorated with displays for various Hasbro toylines including Transformers, Littlest Pet Shop, and My Little Pony.

The groups were then ushered into a room and shown a 20 min. or so presentation that outlined what they would be seeing on the rest of the tour. Also, a new version of the classic My Little Pony theme was played.

After that the groups were led to the cafeteria where several booths had been set up. In here the tour groups could speak with Hasbro staff, check out the licensed My Little Pony products, or peek inside the 'style guides' (books that outline how ponies should look so that licensed products can be made in a way that is appropriate for My Little Pony).

Another table demonstrated how ponies were made and as examples of the process it had several prototypes.

The tour attendees were also given the chance to speak with Bonnie Zacherie the original creator of My Little Pony. Bonnie originally designed 'normal' ponies in the standard pony colors, but it was decided that pastel colors would sell better.
As the tour groups left the Hasbro facilities they were each given a pink gift bag with pink tissue paper. Inside the bag was a silver My Little Pony Pin and a random pony that could be either: Scootaloo, Pinkie Pie or Toola Roola. These were ponies from the current 'core seven' pony toyline.

Venue and Decorations - Saturday

The My Little Pony Fair officially began on Saturday morning around 10am, when the doors were opened to the public. You were processed by last name and whether or not you had pre-registered for tickets. Then you were left to wander around until selling started at 10:30 am... more or less.

Hasbro Booth

The Hasbro Booth was set up on one side of the room and you could go and visit it any time of the day, though they had special events active at only certain times.
These pony banners hung behind the Hasbro booth.

"Silver" stood behind the Hasbro booth behind protective glass the entire time and you were able to walk over to her and take photos.

Other giant ponies were on display in glass cabinet. Included in these ponies was Twinkle Hope.

A giant version of the 2008 Fair Pony was also in this glass case.
The Hasbro table had free My Little Pony fruit snack packages and free buttons. These were small round buttons with either: Silver, the My Little Pony logo, the Pony Project logo, Twinkle Hope, or other pony related picture.

The Hasbro Panel

After we had been allowed to shop for some time the Hasbro Panel was set up. Mostly it was question and answer, but some new products were also revealed. The two sets not yet featured on the news section of the site are:
Pinkie Pie's Special Day set with DVD
Fashion Fun with Rainbow Dash (European Exclusive)
Also, revealed at this time was a new Pony Project pony.
Below are some detail shots:
This pony would later be displayed at the Hasbro booth in the glass case.

Pinkie Pie Appears

One of Hasbro's surprises was to have Pinkie Pie show up during the tour and also during the Fair. You could walk over and get your picture taken with Pinkie Pie on the "Pink Carpet".

Bonnie Zacherie

Bonnie Zacherie the original creator of My Little Pony was on hand to sign autographs and answer questions. On the table in front of her were two prototype ponies. These were her original pony designs, before it was decided that MLP should be pastels.
Bonnie said that she liked the original designs better than the pink and purple, because normal ponies aren't colored that way.

Sunday

Grace Garcia (current sculptor) and Kirk Hindman (early sculptor) were on hand later in the afternoon to talk and sign autographs.
Also on hand was the My Little Pony illustrator. I'm sorry, I have completely spaced on her name... -,-''

Gift Box Pick Up and Fair Merchandise Area

At the end of the Fair, if you pre-registered you had a ticket that would entitle you to a gift box, I'm not sure if you got a gift box if you didn't pre-register. Any way, these black boxes with pink ribbons contained candy and either a silver My Little Pony pin or a Hasbro button (if you had gone on the tour and already had the silver pin).
